Opportunities for artists and creative practitioners

If you are a performer, we can support you in various ways. You can hire our venues and use our Box Office to put on a show, we contract performers for the shows we put on, and we offer informal opportunities for you to develop your practice and reach new audiences.

If you are a filmmaker, visual artist or craft maker, we can support you through providing platforms to show your work through our exhibition programme, maker showcases and commercial opportunities in our retail spaces.

Skills development

We can help you develop new and exiting skills through our Creative Labs and exhibition programmes

Freelance work

We offer paid work to freelance creative practitioners in the delivery of several projects. This includes lecturing on our education courses, delivering Creative Labs and Youth Arts activities, and running sessions on our Arts and Wellbeing programme.

Funding support

Although Shetland Arts is not a funding body, we offer advice and support for groups and individuals who are looking for funding.

We administer the Visual Arts and Crafts Maker Awards (in partnership with Creative Scotland and Shetland Islands Council) and Shetland Arts Fund for young people in partnership with Shetland Charitable Trust.

Facilities and equipment

Shetland Arts have a range of creative spaces available to practitioners, such as Mareel’s recording studio and film editing facilities. Although access to these facilities are not free, they are commercially available at a competitive rate.
